Jay North, the face behind one of America’s most beloved troublemakers, Dennis the Menace, has passed away at the age of 73. The former child star died peacefully at his home in Lake Butler, Florida, on April 6, 2025, after a long battle with colon cancer.
Born in Los Angeles on August 3, 1951, Jay North was thrust into the limelight at just seven years old. With his infectious smile and endless energy, he became a household name through his role as Dennis Mitchell on the CBS sitcom based on Hank Ketcham’s iconic comic strip. The show ran from 1959 to 1963 and captured the hearts of millions, making Jay one of the most recognizable child actors of the era.
But behind the scenes, fame came at a cost.
North struggled with the pressures of early stardom, including the emotional toll of being typecast and the challenges of finding meaningful roles after Dennis the Menace ended. He later spoke openly about the alleged abuse he suffered during his acting years and how it shaped his decision to eventually walk away from Hollywood.
